Looking back at the Lincoln Memorial over the WWII Memorial. The WWII Memorial, like all memorials on the Mall built in my lifetime, has been a focus of controversy since its inception. I'm no fan. It seems kludged together out of a laundry list of neo-classical funerary motifs. But one of the main complaints was that it would break up the vista between the Lincoln Memorial and the Washington Monument. It doesn't seem to have done that. ![]() |
